Description

The DÖRR METEOR 700 reflector telescope is the perfect telescope for beginners. The stable telescope is easy to use and features a tripod, AZ-1 mount, finder scope, 3 eyepieces, 2-times Barlow lens and a moon filter. The METEOR 700 enables impressive observations of the moon, planets, stars, open star clusters and globular star clusters.

THE TELESCOPE – SOPHISTICATED NEWTON CONSTRUCTION

The DÖRR METEOR 700 is a reflector telescope or mirror telescope based on the Newton construction. This design has proven itself over a long period of time. Generations of astronomers preferred the Newtonian design because of its various advantages. Despite the large focal length of 700mm and a 76mm aperture, the telescope tube is very compact. This is achieved by deflecting the light using the primary and secondary mirrors. The mirrors not only make the telescope more compact, but also ensure that there are no chromatic aberrations - as can occur with refractor telescopes. The METEOR delivers a very good optical quality. The Newton construction of this astronomical telescope offers a lateral view. This ensures pleasant and fatigue-free observation fun without having to bend down. Since mirrors are easier to produce than lenses, the METEOR 700 offers an excellent price/performance ratio.

THE TRIPOD – STABLE BUT STILL LIGHTWEIGHT

The telescope rests on a LT2 tripod with aluminium tripod legs. It combines high stability with low weight. This is a great advantage if you want to transport the telescope. The height of the tripod legs can be variably adjusted to ensure comfortable observation in an upright position - regardless of your body height. The triangle tray between the tripod legs is ideal for keeping eyepieces and other accessories while observing.

THE AZ-1 MOUNT – FOR SETTING AND TRACKING

The two-axis alt-azimuth fork mount AZ-1 allows you to align the telescope and to track celestial objects. With one axis you may set the azimuth (the cardinal direction). The other axis is responsible for setting the altitude (the height above the horizon). The height axis features a fine movement via a rotary spindle. The setting is done manually on sight. The alt-azimuth AZ-1 mount is especially beginner-friendly because the telescope does not have to be aligned beforehand. This saves time and prevents stress. You can set up the telescope and start your observations immediately.

SETUP AND OPERATION – FAST, SIMPLE AND CONVENIENT

The components of the telescope can be set up easily and quickly. Operating the telescope is also quite simple. While you track the objects manually, the sharpness can be precisely adjusted using two rotary wheels. All setting options are designed in such a way that even beginners are able to intuitively operate the telescope immediately. Whether children, teenagers or adults - nothing stands in the way of a successful start in the world of astronomy.

THE FINDER SCOPE 5x24 – SIMPLY LOCATING THE CELESTIAL BODIES

The finder scope is placed parallel to the telescope tube and, after a one-time adjustment, allows you to quickly find the desired celestial objects that you want to observe. A finder scope is necessary because the viewing angle of telescopes is so small due to the high magnification that it is not possible to find celestial objects. Due to the low magnification of only 5x, the finder scope captures a larger area of the sky, making it easier to quickly align the telescope to the desired object.

THE EYEPIECES – OPTICS FOR A CLEAR VIEW

The eyepieces are part of the optical system. They are attached to the telescope and allow you to look into the telescope. The eyepiece used affects the magnification of the telescope. The METEOR comes with four eyepieces. They are equipped with a standardized 1.25" socket diameter:

 SR4 two-lens eyepiece
with 4mm focal length, Super Ramsden construction for a magnification of 175x*

 SR6 two-lens eyepiece
with 6mm focal length, Super Ramsden construction for a magnification of 117x*

 H12.5 two-lens eyepiece
with 12.5mm focal length, Huygens construction for a magnification of 56x

 H20 two-lens eyepiece
with 20mm focal length, Huygens construction for a magnification of 35x

THE 2X BARLOW LENS – FOR EVEN GREATER MAGNIFICATION

The DÖRR METEOR 700 also includes a 2x Barlow lens. It is mounted between the telescope and the eyepiece and it doubles the magnification. The following magnifications result with the Barlow lens:

SR4 magnification 350x*
SR6 magnification 234*
H12,5 magnification 112x
H20 magnification 70x

*the recommended maximum magnification for the DÖRR METEOR 700 is 152x. Although higher magnifications are technically possible, they no longer lead to sharp observation results. Mainly responsible for this are the air turbulences in our earth's atmosphere.

MOON FILTER – FOR GLARE-FREE MOON OBSERVATIONS

The moon is illuminated by the sun. During full moon, it is uncomfortably bright when looking through the eyepiece. The supplied moon filter is screwed into the back of the eyepiece and neutrally darkens the image. Basically, it works like sunglasses and even longer observations of the full moon are pleasant and possible without being blinded. The use of the moon filter is also recommended when observing Venus in order to reduce the glare.

TIPS & TRICKS

Further technical characteristics of the telescope can be found in the SPECIFICATIONS tab. In addition, useful TIPS & TRICKS are available in the DOWNLOAD tab to support you in using your astro telescope.

PLEASE NOTE:

NEVER look directly at or near the sun through the telescope or viewfinder! Risk of blindness!
The telescope is not a toy! Children are not allowed to use the telescope without adult supervision.
